David Ludlum has researched, written about, and consulted on issues relating to management for 19 years at MIT's Sloan School, McKinsey & Co., the market research firm International Data Corp. (IDC), the weekly newspaper Computerworld, and Ludlum & Co. He has advised leading technology and media companies from Europe, Japan, Israel, and North America.

Ludlum & Co. has completed business plan projects for more than 40 clients seeking equity financing. Clients served and currently seeking financing include:

  • The Tom Peters Company, the management consulting firm headed by the co-author of the best-seller In Search of Excellence, which was undergoing reorganization

  • Integrated Development Associates, a Tokyo-based company that accelerates development of pharmaceutical products for the Japanese market

  • Liberty Imaging, a startup company developing a digital high-definition TV camera

  • myutility.com, a startup company now named FirstPoint Energy Corporation developing online services for small businesses to manage their energy use

  • Environmental Defense, a non-profit organization developing an Internet service to promote membership by providing localized information on pollution and conservation

  • Virtual Growth, an Internet application service provider offering outsourced accounting (two rounds)

  • EmotionEngine, a startup company developing e-commerce software that employs psychographic modeling to reinforce customers' interest in purchases

  • Op40, a provider of distributed Internet server software that decentralizes processing of Internet applications (two rounds)

  • Ecos Technologies, a provider of software for managing enterprise-wide performance on environment, health & safety matters and energy use

David Ludlum completed the following consulting projects, among many others, for IDC:

  • Developing revenue projections and financial models for Internet information and entertainment services for NBC that were used in the creation of MSNBC

  • Testing product concepts, establishing competitive position and introducing charter customers for BackWeb Technologies, a leader in Internet “push” technology

  • Testing online service concepts through focus groups for Experian (formerly TRW Information Services), which indicated customer interests were different than expected
